Our Two Methods

The Right Method for Your Ears

No two ears are the same, so we use the two safest, most modern wax-removal methods available, and your free assessment decides which is right for you.

Micro Suction - our primary method

The gold standard in ear care. We use a gentle, low-pressure suction device and magnifying loupes to lift wax out cleanly, no water, no mess, no fuss. It’s quick, dry, and exceptionally safe, which is why it’s the method most people leave with.

Water irrigation - the gentle alternative

When micro suction isn’t the best fit for you, we use a modern electronic irrigation system. It gently flushes the ear with temperature-controlled water at a safe, regulated pressure.

A quick word on “syringing” because if you remember the old fashioned ear syringing, the kind that felt uncomfortable then rest assured we don’t do that. Our irrigation technique is a world apart, controlled, gentle and far safer.

Clear FAQs

Should I use ear drops before my appointment?

Yes, we recommend it. Using olive oil drops (available from any chemist) for 2–3 days beforehand softens the wax, making removal quicker, gentler and more comfortable. If you forget, don’t worry — come along anyway and we’ll advise.

Does microsuction hurt?

No. Microsuction is a gentle, low-pressure process and most people find it completely painless — many describe it as oddly satisfying. You’ll hear some noise as we work, which is normal. Hannah talks you through every step.

What’s the difference between microsuction and old-fashioned ear syringing?

Traditional syringing forced water into the ear with a manual syringe, which could feel uncomfortable. We use microsuction - a gentle vacuum method with no water at all - as our primary technique, and modern electronic irrigation as a backup. Both are controlled, gentle and far safer than old-school syringing.

How does Micro Suction removal work?

Micro suction wax removal is done using a small instrument which is inserted safely into the ear canal under microscopic examination so that the audiologist can see clearly. This instrument is like a small vacuum which will very gently remove the wax. The procedure is not painful but mild discomfort can be experienced depending on the sensitivity of the ear canal and the amount and texture of the wax present.

How long does an appointment take?

Usually around 30 minutes, including your assessment. Most wax removal is completed in a single visit.

Is it safe if I wear hearing aids or have had ear surgery?

In most cases, yes - and keeping your ears clear is especially helpful for hearing aid wearers. Just let us know your history when you book, and we’ll take extra care to choose the right method for you.

How often should I have my ears cleaned?

It varies from person to person. Some people need it every few months, others once a year or less. We’ll give you honest, tailored advice — we’ll never push you to come back more than you need to.
